The Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area has once again demonstrated its commitment to youth empowerment and educational advancement through the distribution of free General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms to students within the community.
EpeInsights reports that the initiative, which has now reached its fifth edition under the leadership of the council chairman, Hon. Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, is targeted at indigent and deserving students who may otherwise find it difficult to afford the cost of the forms.
In his remarks during the presentation, Hon. Anomo explained that the gesture was not merely about giving out examination forms but about securing the future of young people in Ikosi-Ejinrin.
According to him, the council’s decision to sustain the programme for five consecutive years stems from the conviction that education remains the strongest weapon for social mobility, poverty reduction, and community development.
He added that by supporting students at this critical stage, the administration is ensuring that no child is denied the opportunity to further their education due to financial constraints.
The council chairman noted that many families within the LCDA are faced with economic challenges, and the cost of purchasing GCE forms often becomes an added burden.
By stepping in to ease this pressure, the administration hopes to create a level playing field where every child, regardless of background, can aspire to a brighter future.
He also emphasized that the programme aligns with his government’s broader agenda of youth development, human capacity building, and the promotion of inclusive opportunities.
Prospective beneficiaries are required to present basic documentation such as their Lagos State Residents Registration Agency card, National Identification Number, birth certificate, secondary school performance record, and proof of residency within Ikosi-Ejinrin.
These measures, according to the council, are put in place to ensure that only genuine residents benefit from the initiative. The registration exercise is scheduled to take place at the council secretariat in Agbowa.
Parents and community leaders present at the event commended the initiative, describing it as a timely and impactful intervention. Some parents highlighted how the cost of education continues to rise, making such support crucial for households struggling to make ends meet.
Teachers and education stakeholders also noted that the programme would not only boost students’ morale but would also increase the number of young people who proceed to higher institutions, thereby raising the educational profile of the LCDA in the long term.
The initiative is further seen as contributing to the global call for quality education, one of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, which emphasizes the need to ensure inclusive and equitable access to learning opportunities for all children.
By prioritizing education through direct interventions such as this, Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA positions itself as a community that values the intellectual and professional growth of its young people.
Beyond the immediate impact, the distribution of GCE forms is expected to inspire students to take their studies more seriously, knowing that their community is invested in their success.
It also represents a message of hope and encouragement, signaling that local government administrations can directly touch lives in practical ways that shape the future.
