Kwara United Football Club emerged champions of the 2025 President Federation Cup, defeating Abakaliki FC 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time.
EpeInsights reports that the grand finale took place at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and his Kwara State counterpart, Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, were on hand to present medals to the triumphant Kwara United team popularly known as the Harmony Boys as they lifted the prestigious trophy in front of a packed stadium.
The nail-biting encounter showcased the resilience and determination of both teams, but it was Kwara United who kept their composure in the shoot-out to clinch victory.
Also present at the final were top officials and sports stakeholders, including the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu; Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Hajji Gaffar Liameed; Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Sheu Dikko; and Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade.
Others in attendance included the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Mr. Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, Director General of the National Institute for Sports, Comrade Philip Shaibu, directors from the Lagos State Sports Commission, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, and several other key figures in the Nigerian sports community.
The event not only celebrated football excellence but also reflected the growing synergy between state and national efforts to promote grassroots sports and reinvigorate local competitions across the country.
With this win, Kwara United adds another feather to its cap and cements its place in Nigerian football history, while fans look forward to more excitement in future editions of the President Federation Cup.
