Commissioner for Youth and Social Development in Lagos State, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the Ministry to use their service year purposefully by striving to leave behind a legacy at their various Places of Primary Assignment (PPA).

EpeInsights gathered that Ogunlende made this call during the maiden edition of “Corpers Connect,” a newly launched interactive forum aimed at fostering engagement between Corps Members and top management of the Ministry.

The event took place on Friday at the Ministry’s headquarters in Alausa.

“Your service year is not just a time for gallivanting. It’s a time to invest in your future by developing initiatives that can solve real-life challenges in your place of service,” the Commissioner stated.

“Think outside the box. Be creative and innovative. What you achieve here can significantly strengthen your CV and open doors in the future,” he added.

Echoing the Commissioner’s remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Pharm. (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, encouraged Corps Members to approach the service year as a defining phase of their lives.

“This is not the time for frivolities. Focus on the true objective of NYSC, which is to serve your country with commitment wherever you are posted,” she said.

“The Ministry is ready to support any well-thought-out programme that benefits Lagosians. My office is open to you all—use this time to write your name in gold.”

The highlight of the event was the recognition of “Corpers Connect” initiator, Michael Adenuga, who expressed gratitude on behalf of fellow Corps Members.

He noted that the initiative was designed to bridge the gap between Corps Members and senior Ministry officials to promote mentorship, collaboration, and impactful service.

“We are determined to make our service year count by creating sustainable impact through innovative projects. This platform will help us learn and contribute meaningfully,” Adenuga said.

Corpers Connect is expected to become a regular forum that inspires Corps Members to think beyond routine tasks and embrace leadership, innovation, and civic responsibility during their year of national service.
