In a bold step to close the education gap in rural parts of Lagos State, the member representing Epe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Wale Raji, has announced the take-off of three newly constructed secondary schools in Ilege, Oko-Abe, and Owu-Ikosi communities.
EpeInsights reports that the Secondary Schools, which are fully equipped and furnished, are set to begin operations in September 2025.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting with the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, at the State Secretariat, Alausa.
Raji emphasized that the schools are part of his broader commitment to democratize access to quality education in historically underserved areas.
“This is not just a project; it is a moral obligation,” he said. “We want to ensure no child in Epe Federal Constituency is left behind due to geography or socioeconomic barriers.”
Each school features two blocks of six classrooms, toilets, and essential furniture, and will cater to clusters of surrounding communities, thus reducing travel distances and safety concerns for students.
The initiative followed community appeals and months of stakeholder consultation with the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
Raji expressed optimism that the collaboration with the Ministry will ensure prompt deployment of qualified teaching and non-teaching staff, with student enrollment expected to begin soon.
Commissioner Alli-Balogun lauded the lawmaker’s foresight, calling the visit “timely and strategic.”
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to support the schools with necessary personnel, learning materials, and operational logistics to guarantee a smooth take-off.
The Commissioner also acknowledged receipt of formal documentation from the lawmaker, which he said is being processed, assuring that the Ministry is actively working with TESCOM and other stakeholders to meet the September deadline.
Raji extended an invitation to the Commissioner to commission the schools, with dates for official handover expected in the coming weeks.
The opening of these schools marks a significant milestone in Rep. Raji’s long-term vision to uplift education and promote inclusive learning across Epe.
