A tragic incident was narrowly averted on Monday afternoon when a two-storey building under construction suddenly collapsed in the Shomolu area of Lagos State.

EpeInsights gathered that the building, located at Number 3 Craig Street, off Apata Road, came crashing down at about 1:00 p.m., according to eyewitnesses.

In a remarkable stroke of luck, no lives were lost, and there were no reported injuries.

Sources revealed that several construction workers were on-site at the time, and worshippers were gathered at a nearby church—The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Liberty Parish—when the building caved in.

The church, which shares a boundary with the construction site, suffered partial damage as some of the collapsed pillars fell into its premises. Thankfully, all worshippers escaped unhurt.

Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the collapse occurred during the decking stage of construction.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that no individuals were trapped under the rubble,” he said. He also noted that emergency responders quickly secured the area and cordoned off the site to prevent further danger.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, and authorities are expected to assess the structural integrity of surrounding buildings.Worshippers, Construction Workers Escape Tragedy as Building Collapses in Lagos
