A Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, on Monday granted bail to a 70-year-old man, Mr. Kayode Otitoju, who was arrested and arraigned on charges of vandalising a public infrastructure project in Lekki Phase 1.

EpeInsights learnt that Otitoju was apprehended on Sunday after allegedly damaging portions of a fence being constructed along the canal setback in the highbrow Lekki area, a project being undertaken by the Lagos State Government as part of its ongoing urban renewal efforts under the #AGreaterLagosRising initiative.

During Monday’s proceedings, the septuagenarian pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge brought against him.

His lawyer, Oluwaseun Ettu, Esq., applied for bail on the most lenient terms, which the court granted. The bail was set at ₦200,000 with one surety, who must present a three-year tax clearance and undergo address verification.

Although bail was granted, Otitoju remained in custody at the time of filing this report, as he had yet to meet the conditions set by the court.

The case has been adjourned to July 25, 2025, for the commencement of trial.

The incident has drawn public attention as the state intensifies enforcement around public infrastructure protection and urban planning compliance.
